Sirleaf Reaffirms ECOWAS Commitment to economically viable community

On her first visit to Nigeria as the chair of the ECOWAS assembly of heads of states and government, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has reaffirmed the body’s resolve to broaden the economy of the region.

This was at a media parley shortly after meeting with the ECOWAS commission president a part of activities during her two day official visit to ECOWAS institutions.

Her steps seem gingerly but she does combine age with grace and a keenness to identify the needed strategies to move the economic community of West African states ECOWAS forward.

The chairman, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf arrived in Abuja Nigeria early Sunday but after a brief rest, she has been meeting with ECOWAS commission officials to get a full grasp of the task ahead.

Her priority areas of concern include the completion of existing trade agreements such as the ETLS and the EPA so as to boost economic activities within the sub region.

Doing this she believes can change the tide for the community even as she calls for all member countries to sign on.

She expressed delight at the way member countries are adhering to democratic ideals especially with the recent outcome of the Gambian elections.

Her two day visit continues on Monday with meetings slated with President Muhammadu Buhari and other institutions of ECOWAS.
