Aisha Uba Ali, Abuja: To tackle corruption in tertiary institutions, stakeholders have been challenged to take a holistic approach in addressing it, because of its multi-dimensional nature.
Analysing corruption situations in Nigerian universities on NTA’s good morning Nigeria programme , guests said there is need to prioritise academic value , ensure the competence of appointees and sponge plagiarism in the system .
A learning environment expected to provide morally and academically sound graduates who will be good ambassadors of the society is the university, but speakers on GMN said this has not been the situation taking cognizance of different forms of corruption taking place in Nigerian universities .
With over hundred universities across the nation, surprisingly enough none is free of one form of corruption or the other.
Speakers on the Programme advocate reward and punishment as a way of preventing corruption.
The guests also commended the five-year term for vice chancellors and encourage the need to form a coalition against corruption in Nigerian universities.
The consensus of speakers is that tackling corruption in universities will in turn, produce high-quality graduates to meet global standard.
