1. The Second Regional Security Summit In Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria will stand shoulder to shoulder with other countries in the fight against terrorism in West Africa.

President Buhari gave this assurance at the end of the second regional security summit in Abuja.

2. APC Governors Task NIPP On More Electricity Projects

The Governors of Sokoto and Kebbi states have requested the Niger Delta Power holding company to contract more electricity distribution projects in their states to enhance supply and speed up economic activities.

Inspecting some of the projects in Sokoto, governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal express satisfaction with their delivery and quality of work. In Kebbi state, Governor Atiku Bagudu who received NIPP officials asked them to consider the state as a power generation hub. The team also visited projects in Daura town of katsina state.

5. Federal Government Sets Aside N68.7b For Palliative Measures

The Federal Government says it will directly impact the lives of more than 8 million Nigerians in different social investment as contained in the 2016 budget spending that would provide succor and be a ready-made palliative to ordinary Nigerians.

This was contained in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Mr. Laolu Akande.

He said details and a breakdown of the interventions and palliatives which would be starting in a matter of weeks include direct payment of N5000 monthly to one million extremely poor Nigerians for 12 months as provided for in the 2016 budget for which N68.7b has been appropriated.

It includes direct provision of very soft loan for market women, men and traders, artisans and Agric workers to a total of 1.76m Nigerians, without the conventional collateral.

Some of the traders, he said will likely get about N60, 000, adding that a total sum of  N140.3b has already been appropriated for this in the budget.

The Senior Special assistant to the vice president also said the N5000 social investment programmes of the Buhari administration is a ready-made palliative to lift Nigerians from poverty and economic hardship.

6. PDP State Congress In Minna

The Niger state Peoples Democratic Party congress has been concluded in a peaceful atmosphere with Tanko Beji emerging the state chairman.

The congress which lasted for over twenty hours had the positions of the vice chairman zone b and legal adviser which were the only contested positions cancelled due to over voting.

The twenty five state executives of the party were inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years.

7. Round Table On Displaced North-East Women and Girls

The need for government, the Nigerian red cross and other international agencies to work out a missing persons registration exercise and facilitate family reunification for victims of Boko haram insurgency has been stressed.

This was part of recommendation of international agencies at a forum in Washington DC.
