Thursday Senate Plenary commenced with acknowledgment  of receipt of President Muhammadu Buhari’s vacation letter.

Senate President Bukola Saraki read the letter in which it was stated that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be Acting during the 10 days President Buhari is on working vacation.

The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria has declared a one week warning strike in view of what it described as failure of the Federal Government to implement collective bargain agreement concern the welfare of its members and the health sector in general.

Minister of Defence Defends Deployment of Troops to Gambia

The Nigerian Military has sent its contingents as part of the ECOWAS standby force for deployment in the Gambia.

A statement from the Ministry of Defence signed by Brigadier General Muhammed Sani Ahmed says the aim is to implement the decision of ECOWAS leaders in upholding the result of the Presidential Election of December 1, 2016.

The statement adds that the development is due to failed efforts to resolve the political impasse there with Yahya Jammeh refusing to relinquish power.

PTAD Assures Pensioners of Prompt Payment

Pensioners who undergo successful verification will begin to enjoy prompt payment of their entitlements three months after the exercise.
