CBN Creates Dollar Glut
In keeping with its determination to increase liquidity in the foreign exchange market, the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday released another $100m into the wholesale forwards segment of the market
The apex bank also pumped an additional $80m into the banks specifically for the settlement of dollar demand for school fees, medicals and personal travel allowance (PTA), among others.
In a statement by its spokesman, Isaac Okorafor, the CBN said that its commitment to providing enough Forex for legitimate business remains unshaken, reiterating that it would do everything possible to ensure the steady supply of Forex to the market.
It will be recalled that efforts by the CBN in making available large amount of Forex to the market has led to the appreciation of the naira by over n85 in less than one week.
There are fears in the market that the local currency may well be on a permanent journey to its natural value put by some analysts at less than n300 to the dollar.
The CBN had maintained that much of the dollar demand had been a bubble created by speculators and hoarders of the greenback.
The apex bank had earlier warned market players and keepers of dollars to make hay and sell their holdings in order to avoid heavy losses.

FG To Engage Additional 350,000 Unemployed Graduates
As different sections of the executive arm of the federal government are now defending the 2017 budget proposals before the national assembly, new details are emerging on the continuation of the social investment programmes, (sip)of the Buhari presidency, including a plan to hire 350,000 more unemployed graduates under the n-power volunteer corps.
A statement by senior special assistant on media & publicity to the president, office of the vice president, Laolu Akande, states that president Buhari has requested appropriation of one hundred and fifty-seven point seventy-five billion naira (N157.75b) in the 2017 budget estimates for the n-power scheme.
While urging Nigerians to take advantage of the different schemes this year, Laolu Akande observed that the n-power is just one of the many social investments programmes that has so far drawn the interest and praise of Nigerians across board, adding that a lot more is to come.
Court Sacks Senator Bassey Albert Akpan
The federal high court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has directed INEC to issue certificate of Return as senator elect Akwa Ibom north east Senatorial district to Bassey Etim.
The presiding judge, Justice Fatun Riman in Judgment ruled that both PDP and the sitting Senator Bassey Albert could not prove that
Bassey Etim was not the authentic winner of the PDP Primary election conducted in 2014.
Meanwhile, senator Bassey Albert Akpan Representing Akwa Ibom north east senatorial District has directed his lawyers to Proceed to the appeal court over the judgment.
In his reaction contained in a statement signed by the senator, he said, the judgment is biased which culminated in his earlier Petition to the National judicial council and the Chief Judge of the federal high court in November 2016 on the matter.
Senator Akpan wants the people of Akwa Ibom North-east to know that the judgment is not final but will be appealed against.

Senate Queries NAPIMS over Funding Shortfall
