China Seeks APC Support
The Ambassador of The People’s Republic of China t6o Nigeria, Pingjia has met with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC Chief John Odigie Oyegun requesting the party’s support in ensuring Nigeria’s full execution of the one chine policy between both countries.

The Chinese Ambassador briefed the APC national working committee on China’s domestic politics and China Nigeria strategic bilateral relations, saying China has pledged five million dollars to support infrastructural projects in Nigeria Saying Nigeria was one of the twenty three countries which supported the United Nations Assembly’s vote to admit the People‘s Republic of China. The APC’s national chairman in his response promised to take the message of the Chinese Ambassador to the appropriate quarters.

The Civil Society on World Water Day
Poor sanitation and lack of access to safe drinking water continues to be issues for many developing countries.
As Nigeria joins the rest of the world in marking World Water Day,Civil Society Organisations are appealing to government to pay greater attention to provision of water as key to reducing the prevalence of water borne diseases.

Hashim a resident of Garki village in Abuja, was eight years old in 1993 when the United Nations General Assembly designated 22 march as World Water Day. He is now 32 and the water shortage he knew from childhood has not changed.

Old Garki is reflective of many parts of Nigeria which lend credence to UNICEF and who estimates that say Nigeria has about 63 million persons without access to improved drinking water sources.

Accompanying this figure are sad realities of vulnerability to water borne diseases and other health challenges. At this media parley on world water day, attention is shifting to greater access to safe drinking water sources and medication that combat water borne diseases.
The solutions being advocated here is multi-faceted.

Key however is having greater budgetary allocation to tackle nutrition and sanitation challenges
Overall the view is that rhetoric’s need to be played down and more commitment shown on the part of all stakeholders.

Only then can the likes of Hashim have greater access to water for both domestic and possibly industrial use.

Customs CG on Seizure of Action Rifle
Controller General, Nigerian Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ali says he may not be appearing before the senate over the wearing of uniform until a suit instituted by one, Mohammed Ibrahim against him and others is dispensed with in court. It’s been reported that he was giving an update on the seizure early last month of 661 pump action rifles.

DSS on Kidnappers Terrorists Arrest
Recent operations carried out by the Department of State Services in various parts of the country have significantly degrade capabilities of hoodlums especially kidnappers, and terrorist whose activities have continually threatened the peace of the country.

A statement by Tony Opuiyo of the department says the successes recorded in the mop up operations were made possible by the cooperation and support of patriotic citizen who volunteered useful information.

The service pledged to sustain the tempo by undertaking similar operations on many more areas, towards ensuring safety of lives and property.

Lai Mohammed Commends Kaduna Airport
While in Kaduna, Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed says flight operations at the Kaduna Airport serving as alternative, have so far been successful. This comes two weeks after the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was closed for reconstruction work on the runway.

Electoral Reforms Committee Meet In south West
Total review of Nigeria’s constitution will serve as bedrock in achieving change that will affect other sectors including that of the electoral system. These formed parts of submissions by participants among who are governors of Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti States as the constitution and electoral reform committee concludes its zonal public hearing in Abeokuta for the south west zone.

FEC Approves Infrastructure Development Projects
The Federal Executive Council has approved various contracts aimed at enhancing the development of critical infrastructure across Nigeria for socio economic prosperity.

These are in the areas of roads, railways and power sectors as essential arteries for development.
Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola and his FCT counterpart Muhammad Musa Bello gave details on the approvals at a media briefing after the council’s meeting.

FG on Niger Delta Development
Leveraging on the gains of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s vist to the Niger Delta, practical steps have been taken to revive agriculture and other productive sectors of the economy in the region.

Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani stated this while briefing journalists on Federal Government plans to develop the region.

Minister of Budget and Planning Tour Ogun on Feeding Programme
The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning Hajia Zainab Ahmed has expressed satisfaction with the level of implementation of the homegrown school feeding programme in Ogun State.

The minister stated this during an inspection tour of schools under the national homegrown school feeding programme one of the five safety nets initiatives of the Federal Government

More Drama Arises in PDP
More drama continues to play out in the PDP leadership crisis as states chapters have been factionalized with two separate groups claiming leadership in the state and the FCT.

This is coming as the Governor Dickson’s national reconciliation committee of the party reaches out to the Ahmed Makarfi group with its recommendations for peace in the PDP.

NAHCON Seeks Media Collaboration
The National Hajj Commission is seeking media collaboration to effectively execute it reforms agenda that would see to the safety, security and affordable accommodation of intending pilgrims.

Chairman of the commission Abdullahi Mukhtar stated this while on a courtesy visit to Daily Trust, Leadership and Blueprint Newspapers.

Police Recover Suicide Doctor’s Body
After three days of search and rescue efforts, the body of a 35 year old medical doctor, Alwell Orji has been recovered from the Lagos Lagoon by the Marine Police.

The deceased reportedly jumped into the lagoon from across the third mainland bridge on Sunday evening.

Before allegedly committing suicide, Alwell who was being driven in his mother’s car by a driver was on hi9s way from church.
The driver who was key witness disclosed that the late doctor received a phone call, chatted with the caller, ordered him to pull over by the side of the bridge after which Orji took the ultimate dive. Efforts to recover his body finally paid off today at four in the afternoon.

President Buhari Mourns General Abisoye
Femi adesina, Special adviser to the president on media and publicity President Muhammadu Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to the family of Major-General Emmanuel Abisoye (RTD), Former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2nd infantry division and 3rd infantry division of the Nigerian Army, who has passed away at the age of 81.

The president also commiserates with the Government and People of Kogi State on the death of their illustrious son, a Former Federal Commissioner for Health and member of the Supreme Military Council.

President Buhari joins them in mourning the loss of a former colleague in the Nigerian army, who was greatly admired and respected by his colleagues for his discipline and dedication to duty.
