The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Garuba Abari, has called on Nigerians to live in peace and unity irrespective of religious or cultural background.
Abari made the call in Osogbo on Thursday at a forum on ‘ Peace Building Sensitisation and Citizens’ Engagement.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the programme was “ Building a People of Peace.’’
Abari was represented by Mrs Metteh Edekobi, the NOA Director of Special Duties and Operations.
The NOA boss, who noted that peace was crucial to the prosperity and social economy of any nation, said Nigerians should avoid acts capable of disturbing the peace of the nation.
According to him, peace is important, if not more important than the mineral resources that the country derives wealth from.
” We are one and we have the duty to promote peace and national unity.
” The constitution enjoins that we should live in peace and unity.
” Love your neighbour is not a joke but a reality. We must ensure peace reigns in our community,’’ he said.
Abari also urged religious leaders to spread the message of peace and unity in the country.
In his address, Gov. Rauf Aregbesola commended NOA for organising the programme.
Represented by Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, the Secretary to the State Government, Aregbesola said Nigerians must continue to live in peace and unity. (NAN)
