Public Hearing On a Bill to Establish Nigeria Police Reform  

The National Assembly has stated that the Nigerian Police Force is over stressed in all ramification as it has 300,000 officers and men manning 180 million people. This Ratio, the Speaker House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara says is below the United Nations recommendation

of 1 to 400 people population Ratio. This was at a one day public hearing on a bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Police Reform Trust Fund and a bill for an act to amend the explosive act of 1964.

 

 Supreme Court Upholds Makarfi’s CTC  

The Political landscape in Nigeria took a dramatic turn this Wednesday Morning when the Supreme Court upheld the Port Harcourt convention of the Peoples’ Democratic Party which dissolved the Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s Executive Committee and constituted the Ahmed Makarfi Care-Taker-Committee. This was the verdict that came from the Nation’s Apex Court after more than a year of litigation.

 

Babatunde Speaks On The Disagreement With Nass

Minister of Power, Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has described disagreement between his ministry and the National Assembly as healthy for the nation’s democracy.  The Minister while speaking to State House correspondent Jide Onifade cautions that it would not be right to described the disagreement differently so as not to redirect attention from what that real issues are.

 

Nigerians Population Hits 192 Million

Nigeria’s population today as at 2017 is estimated tobe 192 million. This figure represents three point two percent of population growth per year.This is declared by the National Population Commission chairman during a visit to the Senate Committee on Population and Demographic issues.

 

EFCC Collaborates With National Assembly

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) in collaboration with the National Assembly has commenced a weekly workshop for State and Local Government officials across the country on Economic and Financial Crimes anti-corruption, fiscal responsibility and good governance.

Boko Haram Attack Will Not Stop Uni Maid

Authority of the University of Maiduguri says it is experiencing uninterrupted academic activities despite the incessant attack on the university community by Boko Haram insurgent, leading to loss of lives and property.

Spokesperson of the University Professor Danjuma Bako who joined other guests on NTA’s programme Good Morning Nigeria provides an update on the institution’s activities.

He says constant dialogue among the school authority, host community and development partners have helped this far.The guests agreed that the peace currently been enjoined could be sustained and improve upon with the ongoing Federal Government intervention programme.

 

Osinbajo Speaks on President buhari’s health

There is an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari will return to the country sooner than later from the UK where he is receiving medical attention.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo while interacting with State House press corps on his visit to the UK says the President is fast recuperating.

The Acting President Tuesday afternoon made a short visit to President in UK and returned to the country in the early hours of Wednesday.

 

House Adopt Motion For Protection

The House of Representatives has adopted a motion calling for protection of persons who testify before the National Assembly. The motion followed the suspension of the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme Prof. Usman Yusuf.

Osinbajo Approves Relief for Flood Victims

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has approved the release of one point six billion naira as immediate intervention for the victims of flood in 16 states of the Country.

Special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity Femi Adesina announced this while briefing Newsmen after meeting at the Federal Executive Council presided over by the Acting President.

Increase in Hajj fares this year is subject to prevailing global economic challenges and the Current Exchange Rate situation in the Country.This was made known at a Stakeholder sensitization forum organized in Lagos to shed more light on 2017 Hajj Operations by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

FEC Approved To pay Inheritance.

The Federal Executive Council has approved a proposed process to validate and pay inherited Federal Government Contractors and Employees liabilities.The validation process and promissory note and debt programme is to resolve decades of outstanding Federal Government obligations to Contractors, State Governments and Employees.

 

National Assembly To Meet Acting President on Hajj fares,

The National Assembly is to meet with the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo in other to find solution to the outcry by the Muslim intending Pilgrims on the high cost of this year’s Hajj exercise.This decision was taken by the House Ad-hoc Committee on Hajj, investigating the hike in the 2017 Hajj fares.

National Assembly Correspondent, Rabi Musa reports that the current dollar exchange rate has been attributed to the increase.
