The Sole Administrator of Argungu local government Alhaji Musa Muhammad Tungulawa has renovated and equipped 3 Womens Skills acquisition centers in 3 wards of the LG namely Alwasa,Gulma, and Lailaba. One of these, Gulma women Tailoring Training centre was commissioned this week by Dr Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu wife of the Kebbi state governor and founder Medicaid Cancer Foundation.
The center is equipped with 10 sewing machines and 2 trainers and a nanny so that breastfeeding mothers can also learn. The first course which will run for 6 months has enrolled 30 women. Training is free.
The wife of the governor thanked the sole administrator for making the effort to train women who make up 52% of the state yet are mostly uneducated and unskilled. She said that such interventions will complement the efforts of the state government to empower women further. She added her own personal donation of sewing and grinding machines, food and clothing items.
Kebbi state government has skills acquisition centers in each of the 21 LGs in addition to those run by NGOs and partners. A national women empowerment scheme GEEP is also currently being run in the state via the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs. Kebbi state is amongst the next batch of states to benefit from the N200million loans to women.
A rich cultural display by the famous Argungu Yan Tauri group thrilled the audience. In attendance were Permanent Secretary Women Affairs Haj Halima Dikko, Sole Administrator Danko Wasagu Local Government Hajiya Tsahara Bawa, wife of state APC chairman Haj Sa’adatu Maccido, other prominent women, local government and party Exco members.
