Conceptually, impunity refers to the absence of effective mechanisms to check crimes and other violations of established rules. In Nigeria today, impunity is said to be the single biggest development problem plaguing every aspect of the nation’s life.
The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who flagged off the campaign suggested the involvement of institutions to achieve maximum result. Various speakers at the occasion, expressed delight at the initiative saying that the only missing link in Nigeria’s development efforts is how to deal with impunity. Organizers of the campaign are optimistic that Stop Impunity Nigeria is not going to be another rhetoric. Stop impunity Nigeria is a collaborative campaign by Civil Society organizations, religious bodies and National Orientation Agency aimed at reorienting Nigerians and promoting new ethical values to free the country from the effects of impunity.
