Speaker on Growth of Democracy

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has attributed the success recorded by the seventh National Assembly, to the determination of members, to place the interest of the country above their parochial interest. Delivering the quarterly business lecture of the Island club, in Lagos, the Speaker said the challenge is to develop the legislature to remain true to the tenets of participatory democracy. In the lecture entitled “The Legislature and the Growth of our Democracy”, the Speaker reiterated that democracy demands two things which are, sovereignty of the people and equality before the law.

The chairman of the club, Prince Ademola Dada said the club which turns seventy this year, has become a centre of attraction for intellectuals, professionals and traditional rulers.
