The Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, Kamalesh Sharma is in Nigeria to among other things strengthen and deepen trade and economic co-operations as well as promote people to people contact within commonwealth member-states. Correspondent Gabriel Odu reports that the Secretary General also discussed consular and bilateral issues with the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
While in Nigeria, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Mr. Kamalesh Sharma is being hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Sec-Gen is to receive briefings on preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting CHOGM, coming up in Sri Lanka in November. Mr. Sharma’s delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Minister, Olugbenga Ashiru. Mr. Sharma said meeting President Jonathan is part of seeking the direction of the leaders on the agenda. Such as issues of people to people relationships, democracy, economic relations and trade, and it will be recalled that President Jonathan was at the last CHOGM meeting in Australia.
