Nigeria can now boast of a National database for its health laboratories. Registrar, Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, Professor Anthony Emeribe said this at the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN Forum in Abuja.
The Registrar said the Council is face with some challenges of laboratory operators not keying into the database, stressing that effort is ongoing to ensure compliance. The Council Boss who stressed the need for all health institutions with laboratory services to get approval to ensure effective output said the Council is partnering with State Governments to ensure regulation of laboratory practice in the Country.
Speaking in capacity building, Professor Emeribe announced that laboratory scientists and technicians would undergo competence tests every six months. He said the Council has commenced a strategic plan to ensure laboratories carried out continuous quality improvement to meet international best practices. He regretted a development that many laboratories in the Council failed to present themselves to external quality assessments.
