Nigeria has moved from the forty-fourth position to the thirty – sixth in the global ranking on Gross Domestic product, based on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, IMF, ranking in 2012. The Minister of National Planning, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman stated this in the mid-term report of the Ministry at the ongoing 2013 ministerial platform in Abuja.
The Ministry of National Planning is saddled with the responsibility of formulating, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of Government policies for the actualization of vision 20:2020.
Dr. Shamsudeen Usman says it has delivered on its mandate based on the road map prescribed in the Transformation Agenda. Institutionalization of the performance of management system and contracting as well as the GDP computation programme currently running in 7 States are in line with best global practices.
The Minister also spoke on the relationship between National Planning and the Budget Office. He added that the Transformation Agenda is redirected at addressing issues of unemployment.
