Statistics show that despite huge availability of water in Africa, only 3% of it is in use. About 340 million people have no access to water due to lack of investments in water infrastructure. Currently about $20 billion is required annually to meet Africa’s water demands.
The Global Water Partnership and the African Ministry Conference on Water are working out programmes on how to tackle the challenges of water inadequacy, supply management and long term sustainability.
The Minister of Water Resources, Mrs Sarah Ochekpe said “Nigeria needs to key into the water resources management programme in view of the challenges facing the country.
