The Catholic Bishops of Nigeria have described the security challenges in the country as the cumulative effect and corrosive impact of corruption which needs to be tackled in order to rescue Nigeria from collapse. In a statement issued at the end of it’s conference in Abuja, the Catholic Bishops appealed to the political class to place the survival of Nigeria above partisan political interests.
Rising from a retreat to mark the year of faith, the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria say while prayers are being offered for the restoration of the Security situation in Nigeria. Political leaders must summon the courage to use the relevant institutions of State to confront the menace.
They urged the President to find best ways to end the crises over the leadership of the Governors’ Forum and the power tussle in Rivers State while genuine amnesty should mean offering pardon to repentant Militants and not appeasing criminals and their sponsors to stay calm. They also expressed hope that the State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe will achieve the desired results.
