Interacting with the Chief of Defence Staff and his top officers, the Chairman House Committee on Defence, Bashir Adamu expressed the Committees condolences regarding the recent deaths of some Nigerian Military Personnel in Niger Republic. He used the occasion to advise that the Defence HQ do more to project its image as one respecting Human Rights, particularly regarding Military/Civilian relations.
Responding, Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as being in the best interest of the Nation’s democracy.
The brief on the 2012 budget performance of the Defence HQ was presented by the Chief of Logistics, Major-General Garba Audu, who identified late release of funds as well as inadequate funding as adversely affecting budget implementation.
The House Defence Committee was also at the Military Pension Board where the Chairman of the Board, Navy Commodore Dalacson Audu revealed that the sum of 101 Billion Naira is required to take care of the 53% increment in Military Pensions since 2010. The Chairman, House Committee on Defence, agreed with the urgent need to settle the outstanding arrears.
A suggestion was also made for the Military Pension Board to open zonal offices so that Military Pensioners in different parts of the country can readily have access to the board.
