Experts call for partnership among organizations towards achieving SDGs water quality agenda

Musbau Dan-Wahab, Abuja:  Water quality is one of the main challenges bedevilling development in societies of the 21st century threatening human health and hindering economic growth among others.

The 2030 agenda and SDGs bring water quality issues to the forefront of international action by setting goal 6 specifically aiming to “ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all”

Now in response to the pressing challenges posed by water quality issues, UNESCO and the national water resources institute are bringing these experts on water management from the West African sub-region together and their assignment is to develop an appropriate and workable framework for strategic implementation of the SDGs goal 6.

Minister for water resources, Suleiman Adamu represented says the federal government through its diversification initiative considers water as critical hence its readiness to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the water sector.

The expectation of participants is to see a continuous synergy among stakeholders in the management of water and making the SDGs goal realisable in the West African region.

Since the sustainable development goals (SDGs) are designed as a global programme, these experts are saying it can only be achieved if all hands are on deck.

Towards achieving water quality in agenda 2030 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), experts are calling for partnership among organisations that deal with water-related issues.

This was the submission at a two-day regional experts meeting organised by UNESCO and the national water resources institute in Abuja.
