Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State and Vice-Chairman of National Food Security Council, has assured the citizenry of government commitment to supporting rice millers and farmers to attain food security of the nation according to Abubakar Mu’azu Dakingari, Chief Press Secretary.
the Governor affirmed this in Kano this Saturday, while exchanging views with rice millers and rice sellers in an interactive session on how best to assist and encourage them to improve production at popular Singer Market, Kano.
He informed them that, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed millers and farmers to collaborate with various agencies in charge of farming activities to feed the nation with locally produced rice instead of imported brand.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu further told them that the federal government and the national food security council which he was the vice-chairman with President Muhammadu Buhari as Chairman would continue to provide adequate financial support including loan facilities to enable them increase yield, quality and quantity in a bid to stop the smuggling of food items into the county.
The Governor was accompanied on the visit by the senator representing Kebbi Central Muhammadu Adamu Aliero who also gave support to encouraging rice farmers produce more food for the nation and to ban on rice importation.
In his remark the leader Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim and members of rice millers association requested the Federal Government and the food security council as a matter of urgency provide market outlets and stable prices for rice and wheat produced in the country as well as ensure complete ban of rice importation into the country.
At popular Singa market Kano, the Governor was conducted round by the chairman of Kano State Chambers of Commerce, officials and owners of Umza Rice as well as LAKE Rice shops and stores.
The traders later appeal to the Federation Government for reduction in price of bag of rice from twelve thousand to ten thousand naira.
