FG Should Declare State of Emergency On Water Supply – Gov. Al-Makura
Gov.Tanko Umaru Almakura of Nasarawa state on Tuesday has appealed to the federal government to declare a state of emergency on water supply considering its importance to societal development.
The Governor made the call while playing host to the Minister of water Resource, Engr.Suleiman Hussein Adamu at the government house, Lafia.
Al-Makura said that his call for the declaration of state of emergency on water supply was necessitated by the problem of water supply been faced by the people of the state and Nigerians at large.
“He who provides water, provides life as human beings cannot sustain their lives without water, that is why my administration has also key in to water supply projects so as to improve on the standard of living of the people of the state.
“It is in view of this, Iam also calling on the federal government through the ministry of Water Resources to declare a state of emergency on water supply considering it importance to societal development.
“Because water can be used for different purposes, it can be used for agriculture, power supply among other purposes as issues of water supply has become a thing of concern to my people both in the rural and urban centers.
“The people of Masaka, Karu and some part of the state are having the problem of water supply and the declaration of the state of emergency on water supply will reduce the problem of water supply not only in Nasarawa state but in the country at large,” he said.
Almakura called on the federal government to expand Uke River in order to address the problem of water supply in the state.
He said that the declaration of the state of emergency on water supply could be achieved with the partnership and cooperation of state governments.
The governor commended the federal government for given approval to 330KVA sub station and pledged the loyalty of the people of the state to President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Earlier, The Minister of water Resource, Engr.Sulieman Husseini Adamu said that he was in the state to launch Graduate youths Agricultural Empowerment scheme at Doma Dam so as to provide employment opportunities to the youths of the state through Agriculture.
He said that the federal government is doing its best to provide portable water supply to its citizens, adding that water is life.
