Nigeria and South Africa Deliberate Over Xenophobia
Nigerian and South African officials have met in Pretoria to discuss issues relating to recent xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals especially Nigerians in South Africa.
The Nigerian delegation included the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama and his Interior counterpart General Abdulahman Danbazzau while the South African team was led by the country’s Minister of International Relations and Co-operation Nkoana-Mashabane. The meeting among others resolved that Nigeria and South Africa set up an early warning units to protect the interest of the two countries.
The South African government reaffirmed its commitment to fight against all forms of discrimination on the basis of gender, race and xenophobia.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Recieves President Buhari’s Resumption Letter
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara on Monday, received communication from President Muhammadu Buhari on his resumption to duty.
The senior special assistant to the president on National Assembly Matters House of Representatives Suleiman Abdurhaman Kawu Sumaila reported that Mr Dogara said he will read the letter to his colleague at plenary on Tuesday, since the communication was meant for them.
He expressed delight at the harmonious working relationship between the Executive and the National Assembly and promised to cooperate in the interest of the people.
FG Makes Plans To Empower Niger Delta Youths
The Federal Government has deployed a new batch of 200 youth from the Niger Delta Region for training in automobile manufacturing technology at a partner car plant in Nnewi Anambra State.
The move, which comes under the auspices of the presidential amnesty program, is also in pursuant of developing requisite skills to actualize the national automotive policy of local production.
IGP Takes Actions to Stop Ethnic Clashes in Ile-Ife
Thirty three suspects are now in police custody in connection with the recent unrest in Ile-fe, Osun State. The inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris has also deployed a police special intervention force in Ile-Ife to restore lasting peace the area.
The team is led by the Commissioner of Police in charge of PMF, Force Headquarters, Abuja. Their operations will cover the entire Ile-Ife and environs, and other flash/trouble spots in Osun State.
The action is as a result of the unfortunate ethnic clashes and disturbance of public peace and mayhem that occurred in Ile-Ife, Osun State on the 8th of march, 2017 which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, destruction of properties worth millions of Naira, and the need to put an end to this crisis.
Minister Of Science And Tech on Transforming The Nation’s Engineering And Technological Operations
The Minister of Science and Technology Dr.Ogbonnaya Onu made this ascertain while addressing the Inter-Ministerial Planning Committee for the technology expo, that the Technology and Innovation Expo 2017 will present to Nigerians critical indigenous technologies which when harnessed are capable of transforming the nation’s engineering and technological operations.
NBC Threatens to Shut Down Indebted Stations
Director General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mallam Ishaq Modibo Kawu says broadcasting stations that are yet to pay their license fees have up till 31st March should do so or risk being shut down.
He addressed this issue while briefing journalists in Abuja on the strategies taken by the commission towards ensuring professionalism especially as the nation goes digital.
The DG also enumerated other anomalies to be tackled by the commission, including acts of impunity, proliferation of hate speech and abuse of phone-in format.
US Ambassador Advises Nigerians on Positive Thinking
The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington has advised Nigerians to think of what they can do for the nation, rather than what they can benefit from government or foreign countries.
The U.S. Ambassador gave the advice in Lokoja when he visited Kogi Sate Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello at the government house.
