FG To Investigate The Death Of 26 Teenagers.
Federal government has set up a cabinet committee to examine the circumstances around the death of 26 teenage Nigerian migrant girls in the Mediterranean in early November. This is in reaction to the allegations that the government had not reacted to the death of this girls believed to have drowned at sea. in a statement, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Garba Shehu said the ministry of foreign affairs has kept its sight on the issue and had briefed the presidency on a regular basis since the time the tragic incident came to lime light.He added that the government’s committee is expected to also examine reports of the sale of Nigerian citizens through slavery and expected to brief the federal executive council next week. chaired by the minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami, the committee has as members, ministers of women affairs, youths, foreign affairs and senior special assistant to the president on foreign affairs and the Diaspora.
U.S Deputy Secretary Of State To Visit Nigeria
Deputy secretary of state John Sullivan will visit Nigeria on November 19 and 20, leading the U S inter-agency delegation to the bi-national commission meetings in Abuja. the bi-national commission will be hosted by Nigerian foreign minister Geoffrey Onyeama. a statement from the information office public affairs section embassy of the united states of America said working groups at the meeting will focus on security cooperation, governance and democracy, as well as economic growth and development.the deputy secretary is the highest ranking member of the trump administration to visit Nigeria and will convey the administration’s commitment to a strong partnership with the government and people of Nigeria.John Sullivan was confirmed by the U.S senate and sworn in as the deputy secretary of state on may 24, 2017.
