Artésunate and 41 Other Anti-Malaria Drugs Banned In Europe Still Selling In Nigerian Stores

Former Governor of Abia State and now Senator, Theodore Orji raised a motion on the floor of the senate yesterday on banned Anti-Malaria drugs still very much in Nigerian stores, selling and consumed.

42 Anti-Malaria drugs are said to be banned by the European union on the reasons that the drugs are highly dangerous to human system and also is linked to the cause of kidney failure.

In part of Sen. Orji’s submission he said “the European Union banned the sale and consumption of 42 Anti-Malaria drugs in all countries within the EU.”

The European Union further warned that the 42 drugs most not be stockpile and consume within the EU States.

“Alarmed that all the 42 drugs banned in the EU are still been stockpile and sold and consumed in Nigeria,” Orji.

Sen. Orji added that there is need to urgently look into the issue because “the only difference between us and the Europeans is the colour of our skin, all our organs is same.”

Senator Barau Jibrin from Kano seconded the motion after submission from Senator Theodor Orji.

The Senate President added his voice to the motion, he said, “is the primary responsibility of us here to protect the lives of our citizens, I hope the committee on Health will get to the bottom of it and make necessary recommendation.”
