IPAC stages Rally, Cautions Against Election Violence in Yobe
The Yobe Chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Thursday launched a ‘Road Walk’ rally in Damaturu to sensitise the electorate against violence in the forthcoming election.
Alhaji Umar Kukuri, IPAC Chairman in the state, while addressing officials of various political parties, said “as we get closer to the election, we appeal to political parties, their candidates and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.”
“There is obvious need to support security operatives to ensure a hitch free election across the state.
“IPAC, being an umbrella body of all political parties, has had several meetings with stakeholders including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to provide a level playing ground to all parties.
“l am glad to say with sense of fulfillment that the electoral body has assured all parties and candidates of equality, fairness and justice,’’ he said.
According to the chairman, the rally is to reawaken political parties and candidates on the need to adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
He appealed to parents to watch over their wards and caution them against being used as tools for political violence.(NAN)
