First Lady Receives South African First Lady

The First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan has appealed for continued support for women, children and other vulnerable groups in society. The First Lady made the appeal when she received the First lady of South Africa, Madame Nompumeleleio MaNtuli-Zuma, at the State House in Abuja.

The First Lady who applauded the passionate commitment of her South African Counterpart to the plight of the African Woman, urged various levels of leadership around the continent to emulate her disposition.

She said African women must be continually empowered to be effective contributors to the development of their countries. Dame Patience assured her guest that Nigeria will always be glad to receive her because of the brotherly ties between the two countries.

She also expressed concern over the current situation of the health of President Nelson Mandela. Madame MaNtuli-Zuma had commended the leadership role of Dame Patience Jonathan, in the advocacy for the enthronement of the culture of peace among the people of Africa.

She specifically commended the immense contributions of the Nigeria First Lady to the socio-economic well-being of African women and children, through the African First Ladies Peace Mission.

Mrs Zuma is in Abuja to attend the second high-level meeting of the Global Power Women Network Africa.
