Nigeria to Use Paper Bags Next Year
The Federal Ministry of Environment will from January next year commence enforcement of the use of paper bags in place of polythene bags. Minister of Environment, Hadiza Mailafia disclosed this during activities marking this years World Environment Day in Abuja.
Polythene bags and pure water sachets represent a huge threat to the environment, because they don’t biodegrade. Polythene bags can take 400 to 1000 years to break down in the environment. Experts say the decision by the Federal Ministry of Environment in in line with global best practices.
