Minister of Works Briefs Senate on Niger Bridge
The Federal Government says it is no unmindful of the condition of the River Niger Bridge and steps have already been taken to strengthen the strategic and crucial infrastructure.
The Minister of Works Mike Onolememen state this whil submitting a Memorandum of emergency repairs on the Bridge to the Senate Committee on Works during an interactive meeting.
He said, already a reputable construction firm has been commissioned since last year to carry out engineering design for the dynamic measurement as well as overall rating of the bridge.
Mr. Onolememen said following the recommendations of the company, the Ministry had directed a review of the submission to ascertain required scope of maintenance works.
The Minister assured the Committee that the necessary repair work would be fully executed while the process for the take off of the second Niger Bridge is being Finalized.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Works, Senator Ayogu Eze had earlier told the Minister that the National Assembly was disturbed about the condition of the bridge and would not relent until the situation improved in the interest of the Nation’s economy.
