Pensioners have reiterated the need for government to treat their entitlements as top priority and help reduce the agony they endure during the many verification processes in the country.
Their plight was brought to the fore on NTA’s Good Morning Nigeria as the programme x-rayed the challenges of pension administration in Nigeria.
Deputy General Secretary, Nigeria union of pensioners said there is a need to examine the complaints of pensioners especially at the state level while also tackling irregularities as well as ensuring that pensioners’ dues are paid.
Pension administrators on the programme explained that they can only act when funds get to them as they are solely dependent on the government. They also insist that processes are in place to pay all arrears owed pensioners in the country.
They however said all is being done to wrap up the authentication of documents by pensioners and verification processes in the country.
The Nigeria labour congress also restated its commitment to ensuring that those owed backlog of arrears are paid as quickly as possible.
