Quantum Systems, the Munich-based defence technology firm, announced on Thursday, July 2 that it has successfully raised $1.2 billion in a Series D funding round. The landmark investment more than doubles the company’s valuation to approximately $8 billion, marking one of the largest private capital injections in the history of the European defence technology sector.

A New Era for European Defence

The funding round was co-led by global heavyweights Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent. This influx of capital signals a major shift in the European defence landscape, as institutional investors increasingly pivot away from traditional, long-term procurement programmes toward agile, software-defined autonomous systems.

For Quantum Systems, the investment provides the “dry powder” necessary to scale its operations globally. The company, which gained significant operational experience through its deployment in Ukraine, is positioning itself as a “neo-prime”—a modern disruptor capable of challenging established defence giants like Rheinmetall and Lockheed Martin.

“The future is unmanned. Defence will be defined by autonomous systems that can operate together across domains in real time. With Quantum Systems, we are building a next generation neo prime that has the potential to disrupt defence as we know it today.” – Florian Seibel, Co-CEO and Co-founder of Quantum Systems.

Scaling for the Future

Quantum Systems plans to deploy the new capital across four strategic pillars:

  • Expanding Production: Increasing manufacturing capacity across its sites in Germany, the United States, Australia, and the Baltic states.
  • Supply Chain Resilience: Strengthening logistics to ensure consistent delivery in high-demand allied markets.
  • Software & AI Advancement: Enhancing the MOSAIC UXS ecosystem, which connects unmanned platforms across air, land, and sea into an interoperable network.
  • Strategic Acquisitions: Pursuing further technological integration to maintain its competitive edge in multi-domain autonomy.
