Shettima Joins African Leaders at Benin Republic Inauguration Ceremony Of Romuald Wadagni Seven-Year Presidential Term

Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Romuald Wadagni as President of the Benin.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Palace in Cotonou on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with leaders from across Africa and beyond expected to attend.

The swearing-in ceremony marks the beginning of Wadagni’s seven-year constitutional term, alongside his running mate, Mariam Chabi Talata, in the capital city of Porto-Novo.

Nigeria and Benin Republic maintain long-standing historical, socio-cultural, and economic ties, with cooperation often centered on border security, trade, and energy partnerships.

The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria after the inauguration ceremony alongside senior government officials and aides accompanying him on the trip.
