265 Disabled Persons Get Prosthetic AIDS in Kebbi
The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bagudu, on Sunday distributed prosthetic aids to People With Special Need (PWSN) to make their living more comfortable.
Aisha distributed the prosthetic aids as part of activities to mark the International Day of Persons with Disability (IDPWDS) in the State
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that items distributed included 15 motorcycles, 50 tricycles, 50 crotches, 50 walking sticks, 50 hearing aids and 50 leper shoes.
She noted that persons living with disability, when given the opportunity, could make tremendous positive contributions to the society.
“Though, disabled persons are often seen but not heard. They watch but not participate. But it will be inhuman to dispute or neglect the fact that given little opportunities, they can tremendously keep our societal values strong.
“People with disabilities have been and are still contributing immensely to the development of our society.
”We are a better and stronger society with them among us, and we can not ignore or deny our responsibilities concerning their welfare and sense of belonging in the society.
“If we deny the less-privileged their own human dignity, capacity for freedom, choice and welfare, it becomes self denial, a denial of both our collective and individual dignity at all levels of the society,” she added.
She urged the beneficiaries to accept their situation, be courageous and strong to pursue their destiny without depression.
Earlier, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hassana Wara, commended Gov. Abubakar Bagudu for his prompt responses to the Ministry’s requests concerning the needs of vulnerable and social welfare institutions in the state.(NAN)
