Expectations ahead of Ogoni land Cleanup
After years of environmental pollution and degradation caused by long period of oil exploration activities, President Muhammadu Buhari will be making a historic visit to Ogoni land to flag-off the cleanup of the devastated oil bearing communities
According to United Nations Enviroment Program, UNEP report on Ogoni land, it will take at least 30 years to clean up oil ravaged Ogoni communities whose aquatic life and farm lands have been destroyed by oil exploration activities
However, after years of endless waiting, the people of the area will have course to smile again as President Muhammadu Buhari will flag off the Ogoni cleanup in a few days.
To the people of the area, the Ogoni cleanup is a promise kept as the action of the president will not only restore their farm lands and aquatic life upon which they depend, but give them another opportunity to diversify the economy into agriculture.
To the federal government, the Ogoni cleanup is about enhanced security, economic revival and good governance for the people.
As the federal government get set for the commencement of the Ogoni cleanup, there is need for collective responsibility and support to sustain the effort
