Unemployed remanded over alleged vandalism of N5m cars
A 23-year-old unemployed man, John Chimobi, who allegedly trespassed into a mechanic workshop and vandalised three cars at gunpoint, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Chimobi, who resides at No. 10, Agbole St., Igando, Lagos, is being tried for unlawful possession of dangerous weapons and robbery.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp . Victor Eruada, told the court that Chimobi, with other persons at large, invaded a mechanic workshop with guns and other dangerous weapons and vandalised three cars worth N5 million on Dec. 14, 2018, at No. 54, Brown St., Aguda, Lagos.
He said that Chimobi and his accomplices trespassed into the compound with an intent to steal.
“Chimobi vandalised one Toyota Prado, Toyota Sienna and Toyota Camry car at gunpoint..
He said that the workshop belonged Mr Bukky Okusi.
“The accused was apprehended by the police, but his accomplices fled,” the prosecutor told the court
The alleged offences contravene Sections 297, and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, directed that the case file should be sent to the state Directorate of Public Prosecutions for advice.
She ordered that the accused should be remanded pending the advice.
Dan-Oni adjourned the case until March 3, for mention. (NAN)
