Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is leading a delegation of top political figures to Awka for the second-term inauguration of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at Alex Ekwueme Square, where Soludo and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, will formally begin a new term in office. VP Shettima is representing President Bola Tinubu at the event.
A statement by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, says the ceremony is expected to draw a wide array of dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond.
Among those attending are former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku.
Governors from the Southeast region, including Hope Uzodimma, are also expected, alongside traditional rulers representing all 179 communities in Anambra State and monarchs from other parts of the country.
Leaders of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), members of the state executive council, clergy, and business figures are also set to attend.

Security has been tightened across the state, with the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and other agencies deploying personnel to strategic locations.
Soludo, who was re-elected on November 8, 2025, is entering his second term with pledges to deepen development efforts, address insecurity, and advance inclusive governance for all residents.
The inauguration follows an interdenominational thanksgiving service held on Sunday at the International Convention Centre in Awka, marking the close of his first term.
