The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, has donated a Police Post to its host community, Gidan Kwano.

Mrs Lydia Legbo, the University Public Relations Officer, disclosed this in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Friday.

Legbo quoted the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musibau Akanji as saying that the need to reduce crime rate and ensure safety of life and property spur on the university into such gesture.

Akanji explained that there was need to ensure safety of lives and property within the University and host community.

He explained that  the project was veritable to the university in view of the need to address the incessant cases of armed robbery attacks on students within the community.

”Majority of our students live off campus and that is why we are placing premium on their security.

Akanji, while calling on the students to be conscious of their environment, urged them to be law abiding citizens in order to ensure peaceful coexistence with their host community.

Responding, the Niger Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’ azu, said the project was a great gift to mark his one year anniversary as the commissioner of police in Niger.

“I urged other corporate organisations in the state to emulate the gesture of FUT, Minna ” he said.

‎The Commissioner admonished students of the University to focus on their studies and shun all forms of criminality.

” Cultism, drug abuse and other anti social behaviours and social vices that are inimical to your education and general well being,” he said.‎

Mu’azu applauded the cordial relationship that had existed between the Police and FUT Minna.

“I must confess that FUT Minna is the most police friendly tertiary institution in the state,” he said.

The commissioner who commended the university management for its kind gesture, assured the institution that the outpost would serve the purpose for which it was established.

He said that he had directed the immediate posting of Police officers to man the outpost.

“The outpost must take off without delay to help check criminal activities within the university community and its environs” he said. (NAN)
