The Zonal Coordinator of the commission in Plateau, Mrs Veronica Abe, made the commission’s position known in a statement on Wednesday in Jos.

Abe stated that “NHRC is saddened that the sanctity of human life is no longer upheld”, pointing that many Nigerians had died from sectarian crises, Boko Haram killings and farmer-herders conflict.

She lamented that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes were hardly brought to book to serve as deterrent to others nursing such evil intentions.

She pointed out that the senseless killings and the abuse of the rights of Nigerians to life was threatening the country’s democracy and that people no longer feel safe to go about their lawful duties due to fear,

She warned against reprisal attacks by aggrieved communities and appealed for calm.
