Niger Govt. Approves N47m for Contingent to National Youth Games
The Niger Government on Saturday said that it has approved N47 million for the 120-man state’s contingent to the National Youth Games (NYG).
The games have been scheduled for 7th to 17th September in Ilorin, Kwara.
Malam Mamman Musa, the state’s Commissioner for made this known in Minna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“The Niger state government has approved the released N47 million to participate in the NYG in Ilorin”.
Musa assured the athletes and officials that the money would be disbursed to them before their departure.
He urged the athletes and officials to work hard toward winning laurels for the state.
The Commissioner enjoined the team Niger to be good ambassadors of the state during the game by obeying the rules of the game and not engaging in any unlawful act.
Similarly, Alhaji Baba Sheshi, Director of Sports at the ministry said that the 120-man contingent include 88 athletes and 32 officials.
Sheshi said that state contingent for the game was ready because they have been training even before the zonal elimination series from Aug. 17 to Aug. 19.
“Our coaches and athletes have been training and they are doing well,’’ he said.
He said that the athletes would compete in handball, athletics, judo, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, karate, kunfu, weightlifting, swimming, para-athletics, chess, scrabble, squash, tennis and wrestling.
NAN reports that the state contingent finished 11th position out of the 36 states and Abuja in the 2016 edition of the game. (NAN)
