Edo Trains 2,100 Youths on Digital Marketing, Skills Development
Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo said that his administration in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goal in the Presidency would train 2,100 youths in the state.
Obaseki said this in Benin on Monday at the commencement of a two-day training of the youths.
He said that the youths would be trained on digital marketing and entrepreneurial skills to boost employment opportunities for youths in the state.
The governor said that unemployed youths needed the right skills to make them employable and employers of labour.
Obaseki, who was represented by Mr Emmanuel Usoh, the state Commissioner of Wealth Creation, Cooperative and Employment, said the trainees were drawn from the Edo Job Creation Initiative, a platform established to generate statistics of unemployed youths in the state.
He said that those outstanding at the end of the training/workshop would be empowered to start their own businesses.
“The state government is ready to sharpen the entrepreneur skills of youths and also expose them to the vast opportunism inherent in the internet to advance their businesses.
“After the training, those who distinguished themselves would be empowered; we have partnership with the Bank of Industry, Central Bank of Nigeria on grants and loans to boost businesses in the state,’’ he said.
He tasked the trainees to develop good business ideas as well as good leadership skills so as to sell their ideas to the public.
Mr Tunde Oyasanya, the Press Secretary to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said job creation was one of the SDGs and the Federal Government was determined to actualise it.
Oyasanya said that about 250,000 youths across the nation were expected to benefit from digit marketing training as it was cheaper and easier to promote businesses via the internet.
He said that empowerment of Nigerian youths would translate to poverty reduction, food sufficiency and sustainable development.
Mr Elijah Otor, a certified Google Trainer, said the day one of the training/workshop would to introduce participants to ways to grow their on-line presence and host their business Website
He said: “we are starting with an orientation course; we want to expose the participants to digital processes so that they will leverage on it to boost their businesses.” (NAN)
