President Buhari on the State of the Economy

President Muhammadu Buhari Meets Business Community
President Muhammadu Buhari has solicited the support, understanding and cooperation of the nation’s business community to his administration’s efforts at diversifying the nation’s economy towards meeting national development aspirations.
The president made the request while exchanging views with the members at the breaking of Ramadan fast at the state house.
Senate President and Others Granted Bail in Forgery Case.
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and three others standing trial before the FCT High Court, Jabi have been granted bail in the senate rules forgery case which began on Monday.
Presidency on Saraki’s Case
In reaction to the commencement of the trial, the senate president is alleging that there is now a government within the government that has seized the apparatus of executive powers to pursue its agenda.
The presidency has however described the claim as not only ridiculous, but also preposterous and of no substance.
In a statement, presidential spokesman Femi Adesina says the executive arm of the federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari is guided by the principles of separation of powers and the rule of law.
The presidency challenged the senate president to identify those who constitute the “government within the government”.
The statement adds that on the on-going trials by the senate president, the attorney general of the federation is the chief law officer of the state and it is within his constitutional powers to determine who has infringed on the law and who has not.
Federal High Court Sacks Abia State Governor
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu to vacate office immediately.
The court in a suit brought against Dr.Ikpeazu by his PDP rival, Dr. Uche Ogar declared him unqualified to contest the Abia governorship election of last year for alleged tax evasion.
Ikpeazu was alleged to have submitted false information to the party for the governorship primaries in December 2014.
Justice Okon Abang who gave the order directed the independent national election commission INE to immediately issue a certificate of return to the plaintiff in the case,Uche Oga who polled the second highest number of votes in the PDP primaries.
Vice President Meets Baze University council
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says university education in Nigeria would require curriculum review to make graduates immediately relevant and be problem solvers.
He said this when a delegation from Baze University led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Alfa Belgore visited him.
Education Minister on Post UTME
The Minister of Education Malam Adamu Adamu has reiterated the ban on post tertiary matriculation examination, otherwise known as post utme conducted by tertiary institutions for admission into universities and other higher institutions of higher learning.
A statement by the deputy director press and public relations says the minister has directed that the ban is with immediate effect and no institution should violate the directive.
The statement also says that jamb remains the sole entity that conducts admission into higher institutions in Nigeria.
Mallam Adamu also explained that the tertiary institutions can only have their documents screened by the institutions after passing through jamb and not be subjected to further examinations.
Post Utme according to the minister has not proven any positive effect on the candidates except subjecting them to more hardship and unnecessary risks in their quest to secure admissions into higher institutions.
All tertiary institutions which have advertised for post utme examinations were directed to stop the exercise immediately.
