The Arochukwu community in Abia State came together to welcome home the remains of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, gathering in heartfelt unity to bid him a final farewell. Surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers, Alexx was laid to rest in his hometown, where his legacy and impact were honored with deep respect and affection.
The Nollywood community, along with close friends, gathered for the wake keep held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Alexx Ekubo’s family residence in Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State. Friends and colleagues offered heartfelt tributes, sharing memories of his warmth, talent, and generosity.
Music and dance played a central role at the wake, honoring Alexx’s vibrant spirit and celebrating his legacy while offering comfort to his grieving family. Rooted in Igbo cultural heritage, these expressions transformed mourning into a celebration of life, providing both spiritual solace and a powerful sense of community solidarity.
His final funeral rites and interment took place on June 18, 2026, followed by a reception at the Mary Slessor School in Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
Born Alex Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke, he attended Federal Government College Daura in Katsina State and went on to study law at the University of Calabar. Beyond his achievements in entertainment, Alexx Ekubo was widely recognized for his humanitarian and youth advocacy work, participating in numerous charitable initiatives and outreach programs across Nigeria and West Africa.
In 2020, he received a Certificate of Excellence from the Sapio Club SGD (Sustainable Goals Development) for his contributions to entertainment and humanitarian efforts in Africa. In 2021, he was named Global Social Giving Actor of the Year by the Nigerian National Awards for his charitable works, and in 2023, he was honored as Rotary Youth Ambassador of the Year by Rotary International District 9142.
Alexx Ekubo was a defining figure in modern Nollywood, celebrated for his charm, versatility, and magnetic screen presence. A major box-office draw, he starred in highly successful commercial hits such as Omo Ghetto: The Saga, The Bling Lagosians, and A Sunday Affair. His linguistic prowess enabled him to bridge cultural divides in casting, a strength particularly evident in culturally significant films like Áfàméfùnà: An Nwa Boi Story.
