Afrobeats singer Ayra Starr has disclosed that she recently underwent major surgery and is taking time away from music to recover. The singer also apologised to fans for her reduced presence on social media, assuring them that she is taking the necessary time to regain her strength.

She made the announcement via her Instagram Story on July 30, explaining her recent absence from social media and revealing that the procedure was “more complicated than they expected.” As a result, the singer said she needed an extended period of rest rather than the quick recovery she had initially anticipated. However, Ayra Starr kept the details private, choosing not to disclose the specific reason for or nature of the surgery.

She assured her fans, known as the “Mobstarrs,” that she would return to her activities once she had fully recuperated. In the meantime, she urged them to continue pre-ordering and promoting her third studio album, Starrgirl, which is scheduled for release in August 2026.

Meanwhile, reactions have poured in across social media as fans got their first look at Ayra Starr’s acting debut following the release of the official trailer for the Hollywood fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone. The singer stars alongside international names including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo and Damson Idris, as well as veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo. The role marks a new chapter in her career, expanding her creative journey beyond music after gaining international recognition as one of Afrobeats’ rising stars.
