After winning Miss World Nigeria 2026, Tamunosoye Karibi-George has secured a place in the Miss World Top 40 after emerging as the Miss World Africa Top Model winner in Vietnam.
Tamunosoye Karibi-George’s journey to the Miss World global stage began long before she stood beneath the lights of the national pageant. Born and raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, she developed an early interest in communication, public speaking and performance. She attended Obiye Academy and Obiye High School before studying Communications at Madonna University, Okija.
She later became an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, building a professional background that would complement her career in modelling and pageantry. Those early experiences helped develop the confidence and communication skills that would later become central to her identity as a beauty queen and advocate.
Her first major breakthrough in pageantry came in 2023, when she competed in the Miss Port Harcourt City Beauty Pageant. Although she finished as first runner-up, the experience opened another door as she went on to become Face of Port Harcourt City 2023/2024.
Rather than using the platform solely for visibility, she began connecting pageantry with community advocacy, including efforts focused on environmental sustainability and responsible waste disposal. The experience strengthened her public presence while demonstrating that her ambitions extended beyond winning a crown.
In 2024, Karibi-George took another major step by competing in Miss Africa International in Accra, Ghana, where she emerged as the winner. The international victory added another significant achievement to her growing pageant résumé and gave her valuable experience competing outside Nigeria.
At the same time, she developed Beyond Labels, an advocacy initiative focused on inclusion and opportunities for children with disabilities and special needs. The initiative promotes dignity, education and the belief that children should not be defined by their disabilities but by their abilities and potential. Her advocacy would eventually become an important part of her Miss World journey through the competition’s Beauty With a Purpose Programme.
Winning the Nigerian Crown
The defining moment of her Nigerian pageant career came in 2026, when Karibi-George entered the Miss World Nigeria competition representing Bayelsa State, joining 20 finalists competing under the theme “Pride, Power, and Purpose.”
Her victory made her Miss World Nigeria 2026, succeeding Joy Mojisola Raimi and earning her the responsibility of representing Nigeria at the global Miss World Festival in Vietnam.
The national crown brought together years of experience in communications, modelling, advocacy and pageantry, transforming a journey that began in Port Harcourt into an opportunity to represent Nigeria on one of the world’s biggest beauty-pageant stages.
Taking Nigeria to Vietnam
After becoming Miss World Nigeria, Karibi-George began preparing for the international competition while continuing to promote Beyond Labels as part of her Beauty With a Purpose campaign. She also engaged with Nigerian officials and supporters as she prepared to travel to Vietnam, presenting herself not simply as a contestant but as an ambassador for Nigeria’s culture, young people and social causes.
Her mission became centred on showing that beauty could be accompanied by purpose, compassion and meaningful community impact.
Once in Vietnam, Karibi-George began competing in the various Miss World activities and fast-track challenges, looking for opportunities to secure an early advantage ahead of the grand final.
African Top Model Victory
On August 27, 2026, Karibi-George won the Miss World Africa Top Model title at the Vietnam Beauty Fashion Fest in Nha Trang.
She emerged ahead of representatives from countries including Botswana, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya and South Africa, adding another major international achievement to her growing pageant career.
The victory was particularly significant because the continental Top Model winners receive an automatic place in the Miss World Top 40. Karibi-George therefore secured her place in the next stage of the competition before the grand final.
For Nigeria, the achievement represents another important milestone in her increasingly impressive Miss World campaign.
The Road to the Crown
With her Top 40 position secured, Karibi-George’s immediate challenge is to advance further, with the Top 20 becoming the next target before the competition moves towards its final stages.
Her performance in Top Model, strong communication skills and Beyond Labels advocacy give her several platforms through which she can continue making an impression on the international stage.
The Miss World 2026 grand final is scheduled for September 5 in Vietnam, where the remaining contestants will compete for the coveted crown.
For Nigeria, Karibi-George’s progress also carries the possibility of revisiting one of the country’s most memorable moments in international pageantry—the historic victory of Agbani Darego, who became the first Nigerian to win the Miss World title in 2001.
Whether she can turn that remarkable journey into Nigeria’s next Miss World crown will be decided on the global stage in Vietnam. But regardless of the final outcome, her rise has already become a story of ambition, advocacy and a Nigerian woman steadily making her mark beyond home.
