Renowned Nigerian gospel singer Asu Ekiye has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu, bringing their nearly three-decade union to an end.

The announcement was made in a Facebook post titled “Public Notice” on Thursday, where Ekiye revealed that his marriage had come to an end after 28 years.

“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end,” he stated.

According to the singer, the marriage officially ended a year ago, but he chose to make the development public only after taking time to process the transition. While he did not disclose the reason for the separation, Ekiye said he was looking ahead with hope and embracing the possibilities that come with a new season of his life.

Asu Ekiye, widely known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” has played a significant role in shaping Nigerian gospel music by blending traditional Niger Delta rhythms and indigenous languages with contemporary sounds, helping to bring the region’s musical identity to audiences around the world.
