The Afrobeats star says he is mindful of his influence on young people and does not want his lifestyle to make them feel inadequate or rush their journey to success.
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, says he deliberately avoids flaunting his wealth and career achievements on social media because he does not want to put unnecessary pressure on young people.
Speaking in an interview with Jam FM, Rema acknowledged that many young people look up to him and aspire to achieve similar success, making him conscious of how his lifestyle could influence their expectations.
“A lot of young people look up to me, whether they are my fans or not. I have something they want or dream of, so I do my best not to make anyone feel bad about themselves or feel pressured,” Rema said.
He noted that constant exposure to the achievements and lifestyles of other young people could make some feel compelled to succeed before their time.
“Everybody has their time but some people just want to rush it because they see their fellow young person doing well,” he said, adding that he remains cautious about how people might interpret displays of his wealth.
Rema also extended his concerns to the pressure children face from their parents, particularly over education and career choices.
“Parents compare a lot. Parents put a lot of kids under pressure. A lot of kids are in school studying what they don’t want to study because their parents want them to have good paying jobs,” he said.
The singer explained that he wants young people to pursue their journeys at their own pace rather than feel inadequate or rush their ambitions because of his achievements.

“So, I don’t want anybody to rush their time or pressure themselves because of me. I just like to keep it simple,” he said.
Rema added that his preference for streetwear reflects his approach to fashion, noting that he does not wear many designer labels, although his chains and watches remain some of the more lavish aspects of his style.
Beyond his comments on social pressure, Rema has continued to release music in 2026. The singer released Tea in August, followed by Oh No on September 11, extending his catalogue with new solo material.
His latest remarks offer another perspective on his public image, suggesting that he sees his influence on young people as a responsibility alongside his success in music.
