Why BTS Are Refusing to Submit Their Music for the 2027 Grammys

Despite being eligible following the release of their comeback album ARIRANG, K-pop supergroup BTS have announced that they will not submit their music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 2027.

According to a joint statement, BTS’s decision is linked to the Recording Academy’s recently introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance category. “We have decided not to submit to the Grammys this year,” the band announced in a statement shared on Instagram by all seven members. “I hope that music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.” Despite receiving multiple Grammy nominations over the years, BTS has yet to secure a win.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said he was disappointed by BTS’ decision but maintained that the new category was created to expand recognition for Asian artistes, not to limit them. He also noted that artistes remain eligible for the general Grammy categories even if they qualify for the new regional category.

BTS have enjoyed massive success since forming in 2010. They picked up the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artiste five times between 2017 and 2021, were named Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards in 2021 and 2026, and became the most awarded group in BBMA history in 2022.
