Mohamed Salah is set to begin a surprising new chapter in his illustrious career, with the Egyptian forward reportedly closing in on a move to Turkish club Trabzonspor after ending his nine-year spell at Liverpool.

The 34-year-old left Liverpool as a free agent following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, bringing an unforgettable era at Anfield to an end. Reports suggest Trabzonspor have opened talks with the forward and reached an agreement in principle over a two-year contract as they look to secure one of football’s biggest names.

Salah leaves Liverpool as a modern-day club icon after transforming into one of the greatest players in the club’s history. Since joining from Roma in 2017, he scored more than 250 goals for the Reds and played a key role in a golden period that saw Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League and several other major trophies.

His individual achievements have also cemented his legacy. During the 2024/25 season, Salah produced one of the finest campaigns of his career, scoring 29 Premier League goals and providing 18 assists as he claimed the Premier League Player of the Season award, Golden Boot and Playmaker honours.

The move to Trabzonspor comes after Salah attracted interest from several clubs following his Liverpool exit. Turkish rivals Beşiktaş were also linked with a potential move, but negotiations reportedly broke down over financial terms and image-rights discussions. Trabzonspor have since moved quickly, offering Salah the opportunity to become the face of their ambitious project.

The Turkish club finished third in the Süper Lig last season and are preparing for Europa League qualifying, giving Salah the chance to continue competing in European football while taking on a new leadership role.

The financial package is expected to reflect Salah’s global status, with reports suggesting Trabzonspor have offered a contract worth around €17 million per season. Although the final details are yet to be officially confirmed, the proposed deal highlights the club’s determination to secure a player of Salah’s calibre.

Salah would join a Trabzonspor squad featuring several experienced players, including former Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana, former Manchester City defender Stefan Savić and Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu.

For Salah, the move represents a major shift after years of competing among Europe’s elite with Liverpool. He leaves England with a legacy as one of the Premier League’s greatest forwards and one of Africa’s most celebrated footballers.

While his departure closes one of the most memorable chapters in Liverpool’s modern history, a new challenge in Türkiye could provide Salah with another opportunity to add to his remarkable story.
