The vehicle, originally used as an ambulance, was damaged by shelling before being repaired and converted into a mobile space where children can watch films and take part in educational and recreational activities.
According to coordinator Ghalib Abu Khater, the initiative has given the vehicle a new purpose, turning what was once a symbol of the destruction around them into a space designed to bring children moments of relief, learning and entertainment.
The Dream Bus began as a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance serving the people of Gaza before it was damaged by Israeli shelling during the conflict. Rather than abandoning the vehicle, the organisation repaired and repurposed it, transforming the former ambulance into a mobile space for children.
The initiative reflects the wider impact of the war on Gaza’s children, many of whom have experienced displacement, loss and disruption to their education and everyday lives. By bringing films, learning and recreational activities directly to children, the Dream Bus offers a temporary space for play and relief amid the continuing hardships of life in Khan Yunis.
