Ted Turner, Visionary CNN Founder, Dies

Ted Turner, renowned media mogul and philanthropist, has died at 87. Turner reshaped the television landscape by founding Cable News Network (CNN) in 1980, launching the world’s first 24-hour cable news channel. His revolutionary approach to broadcasting and business earned him the nickname “The Mouth of the South” and made him one of the most influential figures of the 20th century.

He founded or launched several major cable channels, including Turner Network Television, Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies.

Turner died Wednesday at his home near Tallahassee, Florida, according to a family spokesman. In September 2018, he disclosed that he was battling Lewy body dementia, a progressive neurological disorder with symptoms resembling Parkinson’s disease.
