Cool FM has announced the launch of the Cool FM Music Awards, known as COMA, an initiative designed to recognise the artistes, professionals and creative talents shaping Nigeria’s music and entertainment industry.

For nearly three decades, the radio station has played a role in Nigeria’s music and entertainment landscape, connecting audiences with the sounds, artistes and cultural movements that have influenced successive generations.

With COMA, the station says it intends to extend that legacy by celebrating not only music stars but also the wider creative ecosystem behind the industry.

The awards will feature 17 categories alongside the prestigious Cool FM Icon Award, covering four major areas: Music, Creative and Visuals, Fashion and Style, and Culture and Influence.

Speaking on the launch, Chief Executive Officer of Cool FM, Serge Noujaim, said the initiative was designed to recognise the contributions of people across the industry.

“Cool FM has spent nearly three decades shaping Nigeria’s music culture. With COMA, we are taking that legacy further – celebrating not just the stars, but the entire creative ecosystem behind their success. Nigerian music has conquered the world. It is time we honour the people making it happen,” he said.

Project Chairman of COMA, Joseph Adamu, said the awards would combine industry expertise, measurable performance and audience participation to establish a credible platform for recognising talent and cultural impact.

“COMA is about recognising real talent, creativity and cultural impact. Our ambition is to build a credible awards platform where industry expertise, measurable performance and the voice of the audience come together to celebrate excellence,” Adamu said.

There will be no entry forms or submission fees. Instead, nominees will be identified through streaming performance, radio airplay, DJ rotation, social media engagement and editorial assessment.

The eligibility period covers works released between December 1, 2025, and October 31, 2026. A panel of industry professionals will determine the final nominees, while winners will be selected through a weighted combination of judges’ assessments, public digital voting and Cool FM on-air audience participation.

Through COMA, Cool FM says it aims to strengthen its commitment to discovering talent, championing creativity and recognising the people contributing to the growth and global reach of Nigerian music and culture.
