The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s dairy sector through strategic grassroots capacity development and farmer empowerment initiatives. As part of efforts to improve dairy production, productivity, and sustainability, no fewer than 100 small-scale dairy farmers benefited from a specialized training programme held in Oyo State.
The initiative is aimed at equipping local farmers with modern dairy farming techniques, improved animal management practices, milk handling skills, and sustainable production methods that can boost output and increase income generation. Officials of the ministry noted that strengthening the dairy value chain remains critical to achieving food security, reducing dependence on dairy imports, creating jobs, and improving rural livelihoods across Nigeria.

Participants at the training expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would help improve their businesses and contribute positively to the growth of the livestock sector. The programme also highlights ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to modernize agriculture and livestock production through education, innovation, and grassroots engagement.

What impact will this initiative have on Nigeria’s dairy industry? Can local dairy production meet growing national demand? Will more farmers across the country benefit from similar interventions?
